RECLAIMED WOOD KITCHEN: OUR FINISHES
Our paneling comes in a range of finishes, so you can match the wood to your cabinets and the feel you're after. Lighter tones keep a kitchen open and airy, while deeper browns add warmth and a strong focal point. A few favorites:
- Laramie: A natural gray that suits modern and modern farmhouse kitchens without overpowering the space.
- Cody: A mix of gray with warm brown, blonde, and cinnamon hues. It's the finish in our own kitchen photos, and it plays well off stainless steel appliances and white cabinets.
- Cheyenne: Warm brown and honey-blond tones that pair beautifully with butcher block or natural barn wood décor.
- Saratoga: Deep, bold coloring that turns a backsplash or accent wall into a true focal point.
We also offer bolder looks like Sundance White, Casper, Sundance Red, and Wheatland, all milled from the same FSC® Recycled snow fence wood.
KITCHEN DESIGN IDEAS & DESIGN ELEMENTS
A kitchen is full of surfaces ready for a little natural beauty. Here's where homeowners and designers put reclaimed wood to work most:
Wood Backsplash: A reclaimed wood backsplash is one of the fastest ways to warm up a kitchen, and at ¼-inch thick, the planks tuck neatly between counter and upper cabinets. Add our Centennial Seal behind a sink or cooktop for moisture protection and easier cleanup.
Kitchen Island: Wrap the sides and back of a kitchen island in reclaimed barn wood, then top it with butcher block or a solid wood countertop to anchor the room.
Open Shelving: Run reclaimed wood behind your open shelves to frame the dishware, or pair it with wood shelves for a cohesive, rustic look.
Accent Wall & Dining Nook: Carry the wood onto a full accent wall behind the dining table to tie the kitchen and dining room together. A horizontal layout can make a smaller eat-in kitchen feel wider.
Reclaimed Wood Ceiling: A wood ceiling, or planks wrapped around a range hood, adds warmth overhead and pulls the whole kitchen together.
FEATURE CENTENNIAL WOODS BEYOND YOUR KITCHEN
The same solid wood paneling that warms up your kitchen looks just as good on walls, ceilings, bathrooms, staircases, and fireplace mantels throughout the rest of the house, making it easy to create one cohesive, inviting look from room to room.
For larger kitchen remodels or open-concept spaces that flow into the living and dining rooms, our 6-foot bulk reclaimed wood planks are a cost-effective, sustainable choice that keeps the wood tone consistent across a big run of wall or ceiling. Bulk ordering also gives you flexibility for long spans and commercial kitchens. Planning something especially large? Reach out to the team, and we'll help you spec it out.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Can I use reclaimed wood as a kitchen backsplash?
Yes, and it's one of our most popular kitchen uses. Our ¼-inch planks install easily between your counter and upper cabinets and bring instant warmth to the space. The same planks work behind open shelving or across a full wall if you want to carry the look further.
Is reclaimed wood safe to install near a stove or cooktop?
Our wood always has the option for our flame-retardant coating. We recommend it for any paneling installed near a range, cooktop, or other heat source. As with any backsplash material, keep wood a safe distance from open flame and follow your appliance manufacturer's guidelines.
Will the wood hold up to kitchen moisture, steam, and grease?
It holds up well. Our reclaimed wood is naturally low in moisture and stable after years of weathering. Our Centennial Seal adds a layer of protection against moisture and UV exposure and makes the surface easier to clean, which is why we suggest it for backsplashes and any paneling close to the sink or range.
Can I clad my kitchen island in reclaimed wood?
Absolutely. The sides and back of an island are a great canvas for reclaimed wood paneling, and the lightweight planks are easy to apply over an existing cabinet base. Pair it with a butcher block or solid wood top to complete the look.
What finish looks best in a kitchen?
It depends on your cabinets and the mood you're after. Cody is a favorite for its gray-and-brown blend that works beautifully with stainless steel and white cabinetry. Laramie keeps things light and modern, Cheyenne leans warm for a modern farmhouse feel, and Saratoga makes a bold focal point. If you're matching the paneling to existing wood in the room, our guide to wood tones that go together breaks down how to pair warm and cool finishes. We'd also recommend ordering free samples so you can see the wood tone against your own cabinets and countertop before committing.
Do the reclaimed wood planks have color variations?
Yes. Each board carries its own unique character from years of weathering in Wyoming's high plains. While the overall tone of each finish stays consistent, you can expect natural variation in color, texture, grain, and nail holes that add to the authenticity of your installation.
How much paneling will I need?
Each box of our paneling covers 20 square feet, with planks ¼-inch thick and 5 inches wide in a mix of 4-, 3-, 2-, and 1-foot lengths, all pre-cut for quick installation. Measure your backsplash, island, or wall area, then add 10–15% for cuts and waste. Not sure how much to order? Give us a call, and we'll help you figure it out.
Is shipping really free?
Yes. Standard paneling orders ship free and typically process in 7–14 business days. Orders treated with Centennial Seal or our flame-retardant coating take an additional 7–21 business days.
