PREPARE BOARDS

Keep the siding uncovered but protected from rain and moisture, and let the boards acclimate onsite for at least 5 days before installation. This acclimation period helps the siding boards adjust to local conditions (including warmer temperatures, if applicable) so they install flatter and perform better after installation.

PREPARE SURFACE

Start with a clean, dry exterior wall and follow local best practices. As a general rule, use furring strips every 16 to 20 inches with a rainscreen or moisture barrier behind the siding. In some climates and on certain substrates, like Zip System sheathing, installers may fasten siding directly to the substrate.

SECURE BOARDS

Secure the siding using stainless steel fasteners or ring-shank nails for a durable hold and easy installation. For shiplap, follow overlapping guidelines for a seamless fit. When joining lengths, align the end joints carefully for a clean connection between an existing board and a new plank.

CENTENNIAL SEAL

Centennial Seal™ protects your wood siding and exterior walls against fading, moisture damage, and UV exposure without changing the natural appearance of the wood. Protection can last 5–10 years, depending on exposure levels. Centennial Seal™ can be pre-applied or shipped in 1- and 5-gallon containers to apply onsite during installation or for future coats as needed. Use Centennial Cut-Seal™ to seal raw edges after installation or repair for continued durability.
