QUESTIONS ABOUT RECLAIMED WOOD
Reclaimed wood is wood that’s recycled and repurposed after serving its initial purpose.
You can learn more about what reclaimed wood and where it comes from in our Ultimate Guide to Reclaimed Wood.
Reclaimed wood prices fluctuate with the market and vary based on what kind of product you’re purchasing.
Centennial Woods offers interior and exterior products, with wholesale pricing available for bulk orders.
Yes, reclaimed wood is a sustainable product by nature because it involves reusing wood instead of disposing of it.
Reclaimed wood from Centennial Woods is a truly eco-friendly, carbon-negative product. Since our wood is dried naturally, it doesn’t require the same energy-intensive kiln drying that similar products do.
Yes, reclaimed wood from Centennial Woods can be safely used for outdoor and indoor projects.
Siding planks can be ordered with our Centennial Seal protective sealant that protects the wood against sun fading and water damage.
Reclaimed wood can be used for a wide variety of commercial and residential projects – from accent walls and ceilings inside to exterior siding.
You can check out how our products have been used and get some inspiration for your next project in our photo gallery. We also post project ideas and video guides on our blog.
Reclaimed wood can be safely cleaned with a brush. If your wood gets dusty, you can use a broom or vacuum.
Avoid using chemicals or soaking the wood with soap and water, as this could damage its natural patina. Dry cleaning reclaimed wood is the way to go for maintaining its integrity and beauty over time.
Unlike reclaimed wood from sources like old barns, products from Centennial Woods do NOT have to go through kiln drying or chemical treatment before use.
Because our wood is naturally weathered and dried, it doesn’t require any chemical treatment – and is uninhabitable for insects. It’s also never been exposed to barnyard animal waste or other toxins.
Yes, reclaimed wood can be painted and stained. However, reclaimed wood from Centennial Woods comes in various finishes so you don’t have to do that work yourself. Our stunning finishes vary in color and texture to fit a wide range of design aesthetics. You can browse by finish on our interior products page and in our photo gallery.
If you plan on applying the finish yourself instead of buying finished wood, you should also keep in mind that polyurethane finishes can noticeably darken the appearance of most reclaimed wood.
Centennial Woods offers three different protective sealants that can be shipped by the gallon or pre-applied to any order. They do not alter the appearance of our wood.
- Centennial Seal protects wood siding from sun fading and water damage
- Centennial Cut-Seal™ protects raw-cut edges
- Flame Stop II provides a Class-A fire rating
If you’re using your own sealant, you should spot-test it on a spare piece of reclaimed wood. Keep in mind that most sealants will turn wood a very dark brown or gray color.
Yes, your reclaimed wood's color, hue, and patina will change slightly over time as it’s exposed to the sun and other elements – especially if you use it as exterior siding.
Sealants and waterproofing agents can help prevent or slow some of those changes. You can learn more in our Ultimate Guide to Reclaimed Wood.

QUESTIONS ABOUT SALVAGED WOOD
Salvaged wood is a byproduct of construction projects, milling processes, and more.
Salvaged wood from Centennial Woods, for example, is the byproduct of the milling process we use on the wood we reclaim from snow fences. Our salvaged wood is still reclaimed wood because it comes from the same source as our finished products, but the planks are unfinished and rough-cut.
You can learn more in our Reclaimed Wood vs. Salvaged Wood blog post.
Yes, salvaged wood is a sustainable product. Similar to reclaimed wood, using salvaged wood prevents the planks from being disposed of or burned, which releases the carbon stored inside the wood.
Salvaged wood can be effectively cleaned with a brush. For dust removal, a broom or vacuum works well.
You should not use chemicals or soak the wood with soap and water, as this may harm its natural patina. Dry cleaning methods are recommended to preserve its integrity over time.
Salvaged wood can be used for many of the same projects reclaimed wood can be used for but at a cheaper cost. It’s best used for interior projects.
Due to the nature of the product, salvaged wood projects may feature more variability than those that use finished reclaimed wood. However, you may be able to achieve a higher quality end product depending on how much extra time and effort you put into it.
QUESTIONS ABOUT RECLAIMED LUMBER
Reclaimed lumber is reclaimed wood but as a raw product. This means it’s delivered as is after being recycled.
Learn more about reclaimed lumber.
Reclaimed snow fence lumber can be purchased directly from Centennial Woods.
Our raw lumber product is also available at select lumber stores. You can check for availability by calling your local lumber yard.
Reclaimed lumber can be cleaned effectively with a brush. A broom or vacuum is suitable for removing dust.
It’s important to avoid using chemicals or soaking the wood with soap and water, as this could damage its natural patina. Opting for a dry cleaning method can help preserve reclaimed lumber’s integrity over time.
Similar to our other products, reclaimed lumber from Centennial Woods can safely be used for a wide variety of professional interior and exterior projects including siding, wall and ceiling cladding, furniture, shelving, and more.
QUESTIONS ABOUT CENTENNIAL WOODS
Centennial Woods is located in Laramie, Wyoming – not far from where the company was founded in Centennial, Wyoming.
Learn more about us and our history.
We source and reclaim all of our woods from the approximately 500 miles of snow fence we maintain throughout Wyoming. When a section of fence is rebuilt (usually after about 10 years,) we recycle the old boards and mill them into beautifully weathered planks for interior and exterior use.
Our nearly limitless supply of wood makes us the world’s largest source of sustainable reclaimed wood and allows us to offer some of the shortest lead times in the industry. Sourcing all of our wood from the same place also means our product is consistent in appearance, even between orders.
When you think of a snow fence, you may picture the 4-foot pliable orange plastic fencing that’s secured with wooden stakes – or even a wooden wind fence you see at the beach.
The snow fences Centennial Woods builds, maintains, and reclaims wood from are much larger, more durable structures that protect Wyoming roadways. They feature wood slats that help block snow from blowing across roads during the harsh winter months in the Rocky Mountains.
Yes, reclaimed wood from Centennial Woods is completely safe to use indoors. Our products are never treated with chemicals or exposed to toxins and are uninhabitable for bugs.
All Centennial Woods products are certified sustainable. Our certifications include:
- FSC® Recycled
- Forest Stewardship Council (FSC)
- GREENGUARD Gold
Our products also contribute toward satisfying MR3, MR4, and MR5 credits under LEED®.
